SENIOR SCHOOL

While an increasing number of overseas parents are sending their children off to boarding schools earlier, senior school remains the most common point of entry for most international students. In general, senior schools are responsible for providing secondary education from Year 7 to Year 13.

GCSEs are taken by students aged 14 to 16 where they may take between 7 and 10 subjects depending on their academic interests. Like at prep school, Maths, English and Science continue to be at the core of the curriculum while there is also the flexibility to explore other areas of interests such as the humanities, the arts, design and technology and physical education. This ensures there is ample scope for pupils to obtain a broad education in a wide range of subjects.

GCE A Levels are qualifications that prepare pupils for entry into higher education. Taken by students aged 16 to 19, most students study three or four A Level subjects as they begin to narrow their scope of focus. To provide educational depth, some schools also offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to stretch more able students. Increasingly, though, some schools are offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme as an alternative to or alongside A Levels.
